The Webform Content Type is automatically created when you enable the Webform module. Technically speaking, the Webform content type is not required as webforms can be added to any content type that you choose.
We find it helpful to have a content type specifically for webforms.
We often use the Webform module to create the Contact Us form on most site, because unlike the default Contact Form build into Backdrop CMS, the Webform module stores data in the database. The default Contact Us form in Backdrop CMS simply emails the details of each form on submission to a designated email address, without storing anything in the database.
